2012 Testing Standards

At the April meeting of the State Referee Committee, new testing standards for Grade 9 Recreational Referees and Grade 8 Referees were adopted, and will take effect in the 2012 referee year. In particular, anyone seeking to register as a grade 8 referee who fails the referee exam, but scores within 10 points of the minimum required score, will have the option of registering as a grade 9 referee as an alternative to re-taking the test. Additionally, anyone who fails a certification exam will have the option of declining registration and may elect to have their entire recertification fee refunded.

Additionally, the State Referee Committee declined to set a minimum age for referees at grade 8 or 9. The opinion of the committee is that anyone who is able to successfully meet the certification standard is eligible for the appropriate grade regardless of age. While we still recommend that referees under the age of 14 be certified at grade 9, anyone who is able to satisfy the grade 8 requirements will be registered. Referee testing standards will be strictly enforced in 2012.
